In the scope of the Undergraduate Course on Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra

• Communication Protocols - Communication protocols: issues and trends. Internet routing protocols: RIP, OSPF, BGP, other. Broadcasting and multicasting. Multicast routing. Transport protocols: TCP, UDP, RTP, SCTP. Voice over IP: H.323. SIP.


• High-Speed Networks - Motivation: the need for speed and for quality of service; modelling and performance analysis. Network technologies: broadband access; wireless LANs; Fiber Channel; 10 Gigabit Ethernet; SDH; DWDM. Quality of Service in IP networks: Introduction; Integrated Services; Differentiated Services; active queue management; protocols for the support of QoS: RSVP, MPLS, NSIS; inter-domain QoS negotiation. End-to-end QoS over heterogeneous networks.


• Mobile Internet - Evolution of wireless networks. 3G systems. 4G systems. Ad Hoc networks. Quality of service in wireless networks (3G, 4G and ad hoc). Mobile IP. IP micro-mobility. Mobile IPv6. Network mobility. Security in wireless networks. Wireless sensor networks.
