I was born at Venezuela and I came to Portugal with 5 years old. I lived all my childhood in a small village called Vagos  near Aveiro. In 1990 I came to Coimbra where I begun my BsC at University of Coimbra. I still live and work in Coimbra.

I finished my BsC (5 years) in Informatics Engineering in 1995 at University of Coimbra.

In 1999 I finished my MsC in Informatics Engineering at University of Coimbra. My MsC was centered in the research of new biologically inspired genetic operators. The thesis sucessfully used a new genetic operator (called transposition) in Genetic Algorithms for function optimization.

I concluded my PhD in Informatics Engineering at University of Coimbra, in October 2010. The PhD contributed to important improvements to memory-based Evolutionary Algorithms for Dynamic Environments. The title of my PhD thesis is "Improving Memory-based Evolutionary Algorithms for Dynamic Environments".

My evaluation jury was formed by :

  • Professor Eugénio Oliveira (University of Oporto)
  • Professor Júlio Alferes (Universidade Nova de Lisboa)
  • Professor Jurgen Branke (University of Warwick)
  • Professor Shengxiang Yang (University of Leicester)
  • Professor Teresa Mendes (University of Coimbra)
  • Professor António Dourado (University of Coimbra)
  • .

You can see some photos of my PhD Viva here.

Currently I am Assistant Professor at Dept. of Computer Science and Systems Engineering, of the Institute Polytechnic of Coimbra.

I am also a researcher of the ECOS group, belonging to CISUC. My research interest covers the following areas: genetic and evolutionary computation, dynamic optimization problems, intelligent systems, artificial immune systems and epigenetics.

The MsC and the PhD thesis and all my publications can be downloded here.
