The following table was not created according to the university where
I studied. In fact
I was always very happy because the Department of Informatic
Engineering of the University
of Coimbra, is close to a Learning Organization in some of the points
bellow.
| Learning Organizations | Universities |
|---|---|
| Systems Thinking | Mechanical Thinking |
| Shared Vision | Individual Conceptualization |
| Shared Decision and Collaborative Creation | Communicated Decisions (from top to bottom) |
| Opinions can come from anyone | Only some are listened |
| No defined boarders between learning and teaching | Clear division of who learns and who teaches |
| Practical Learning | Theoretical Learning (by books) |
| People learn what they think is best to achieve the organization's mission | Students learn what they are told |
| Meetings in round tables (all together) | Teacher and students meet in private rooms and desks are rigidly disposed in classrooms |
| Collaboration | Competition |
| Empowerment | "Enchildment" |
| Trust | Lack of trust (students <-> teachers) |
| Pluridisciplinary teams | Students or teachers and not students and teachers |
| Information sharing | Information hiding |
As soon as possible everyone of this points will be developed into a
short descriptive paragraph.
