Plot outline: "People once believed that when you died, a crow took your soul to the land of the dead.....but sometimes, just sometimes, the crow could bring that soul back, to make the wrong things right..." Eric Draven and Shelly Websyter were engaged to be married on October 31.....they were brutally murdered the night before. A year later, the Crow brings Eric's soul back to seek vengeance and earn his eternal rest. Summary written by Madison Eric Draven and his fiance are brutally murdered on Devil's Night, a night when the henchmen of crime-boss Top Dollar traditionally indulge in wanton acts of violence and arson. A crow brings Draven's restless soul back from the dead and he sets out to wreak revenge upon his killers. Summary written by Alexander Lum {aj_lum@postoffice.utas.edu.au} Shelly and Eric were very much in love. But no one gets married on Hallowe'en, not in Detroit. Shelly is raped and beaten by city boss Top Dollar's thugs, only to die 30 hours later in a hospital. Eric is shot and pushed out a window. A year later death is no longer what it was as Eric Draven, accompanied by a Crow and gifted with new powers and a world of grief and pain, is brought back to life to avenge his love's death. After all, love is forever. And some of us Believe in Angels. Summary written by Tara O'Shea {tara@hydra.unm.edu} On Devils night 2 souls are happy as they are to be married the next day - Halloween. But in the corrupt city that they live, happiness is one of the qualities quickly extinguished when found. Eric Draven and Shelley Webster owned a building and when they complain to the authorities of problems, the authorities send round a ruthless gang to "deal" with the problem. As they rape Shelley while her fiancee' is out shopping, he comes home and is promptly shot and thrown out the high story window, killed on the road below - Shelley dies 20 hours later in intensive care as a result of the attack. 1 Year later... the forces that seem fit to bring these people to justice, as Eric is reincarnated with the spiritual guidance of a crow, as he tracks down the gang members that killed him and his fiancee', appropriately leaving crow symbols as he does, but on the searching of the last and final member, he comes across the power behind the gang, who seems fit to kill off this crow - as he is the ruler of the city. So how does it fall... Is justice sought and done, or is evil the winner overall? Summary written by Russell Miles {Zeus_gb@hotmail.com}
Comment: The Crow should be, hell is a classic (you can tell by the way it is done, plus they are making tons of sequels etc.) and it rightly so is one. It has got a good and fitting soundtrack, a dark town (very Blade Runner), a determined yet ‘cool' hero, freaked out bad guys (I especially like Michael Wincott, he's made some cool movies, like Alien Resurrection and Metro (OK this wasn't like a Hit, but it was better than Murphy's other sh.t, like Nutty Professor 1 + 2, Doctor Dolittle and so on)). Plus the film has got a lot of emotion (greatly brought forward by the music of Graeme Revell as well), mysticism, a few jokes and good characters. That along with the good story, the good direction plus the good cast makes this really worth a look. I only wonder what is up with that editing, was the movie edited cause it was too violent or was it just badly edited (101 Minutes was printed on the package, but the ending credits started after 90 minutes (I guess they included Brandon Lee's last interview in the running time) . Well when I'm stepping on bad things here I might just as well mention the other thing. This film was not as exciting and I wasn't on the edge of my seat, hey but no film is perfect (that's why my highest vote is a 9 out of 10). The thing I liked most about this movie was Brandon Lee (a pity he had to leave this world so early). He played a freaked and psychotic hero really good and cool. Plus he played the guitar pretty good and walked around as what most people though was supposed to be some kind of a clown. To me it was more like a dark, rock and gothic avenger, why, cause I'd like it that way. I think people who dress up like that and walk around have got balls plus they are original and I like them for that. That's also why I like Eric Draven as the Avenger. OK it looks cool too and I probably wouldn't have liked it if it would have been, like Clint Eastwoood, but what the hell. 8 out of 10
