Internal Report DEE-FCTUC-011-93, ISSN:0871-7850 University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal 1993 Object-Orientation: In Search of the Paradigm J.
Batista, ISCAA/CISUC, Portugal Abstract The growing variety of interpretations of what object-orientation is all about is turning object-oriented technology into a babel of disparate visions and approaches, with no harmony in sight. We believe that the existence of a variety of basic concepts and notations is not a liability in itself, but we maintain that it can only lead to confusion in the absence of a paradigm that breaks away from earlier visions of software engineering and brings cohesion to the object-oriented development cycle. This paper attempts to demonstrate that a paradigm inspired by a common set of basic concepts and a unified notation is essential to this end. |
