PhD scholarship to design and analyse algorithms for multicriteria
problems in Bioinformatics at University of Coimbra.

We are seeking candidates for a PhD position within an innovative
research project at the Centre for Informatics and Systems at the
University of Coimbra. The project is concerned with development of
algorithms for multicriteria combinatorial optimization problems that
arise in the Bioinformatics field. The research team involves computer
scientists, mathematicians, biochemists and practitioners.

The successuful candidate will receive a scholarship of 980 Euros per
month, tax free, for 2.5 years, and he/she should be enrolled in the
PhD program at the Department of Informatics Engineering (see
http://phd.dei.uc.pt). There is funding available for conference fees
and for travelling to conferences. There are no teaching obligations.

A suitable background for the applicant is a strong undergraduate
degree in Computer Science and Mathematics or related
fields. Candidates must have a strong background in algorithm design
and analysis techniques. The start of this position is planned for
September 1 2010.

The University of Coimbra is one of the oldest in Europe, one of the
highest-ranked universities in portuguese-speaking countries as well
as being one of the Portugal's most international
universities. Coimbra is a very lively city and it is well-known for
its academic traditions and historical monuments. Given the low cost
of living in Portugal, the scholarship is adequate to cover all living
expenses.
